The Tennessee State Soccer Association Hall of Fame nominating committee has unanimously approved Carey Talley as it’s latest member to be inducted into the TSSA Hall of Fame.  Talley grew up in Memphis and played high school soccer for Houston High School in Germantown, Tennessee.  His team won the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association soccer championship his junior and senior years in 1993 and 1994. He played his club soccer for Memphis Futbol Club for TSSA Hall of Fame Coach, Richard Bute.  Talley played college soccer at the University of North Carolina from 1994 to 1997. He finished his career at UNC with 26 goals and 22 assists in 75 games and was named a two-time All-American.

After graduating from UNC, Talley was drafted 14th overall by D.C. United in the 1998 MLS College Draft.  Talley immediately earned a spot in the United lineup, starting 19 games and appearing in 29; he would remain in that role for the next three years, winning an MLS Cup with the team in 1999.  During the 1999 MLS Cup title season Talley scored a career-high 4 goals.  He scored his first MLS goal on May 15, 1999 at Kansas City, and started all six playoff matches for DC, including MLS Cup 1999, which United won 2-0 over the Galaxy.  Talley would go on to spend 11 years in Major League Soccer with various teams and earned the reputation of a reliable defender in each organization in which he played.

During his youth days Talley was a consistent force on the youth national team scene, where he appeared for the U17, U20, and U23 national teams.  Talley was also member of several US Men’s National team training camps in his early days of Major League Soccer.

Talley has returned to his hometown of Germantown where he is the Legends' Director of Coaching.  A USSF A licensed coach, and a multiple time TSSA State Champion coach, Talley currently coaches the Legends 04 Black, Legends 03 Black and Lady Legends 08 Black.

Talley resides in Germantown with his wife Kirsten and their two children, Max and Lyla.
